Cleaning can be a repetitive never ending task to some, while others enjoy the instant gratification cleaning affords. No matter where you fall on this spectrum, a few tips to speed up the process will make it more enjoyable. Imagine cutting the time of cleaning your kitchen in half. How much of your Saturday would that free up? Or, what about the bathroom in under 15 minutes…sounds impossible right?
With the right tips and tools you can spend less time cleaning and more time with the family.
The number 1 time Saving tip is to always have a game plan. Don’t just grab the vacuum and windex and go for it. Slow down, gather all of your materials in a caddy, ask yourself ”Where will I start, and end?”
I don’t know about you guys, but for me this one is vital. Music sets the tone and really gets me moving. Get a playlist of your favorite tunes and dance like no one is watching. If anyone is watching make them help with the cleaning.
Top to Bottom, Left to Right
Anyone who has ever cleaned professionally has certainly heard this term. Top to bottoms, Left to right is the most effecicient way to clean. Pick a spot in the room, and work your way around the room in a complete circle going top to bottom left right. This simple method keeps you from recleaning surfaces that have already been cleaned, and it doesn’t make much sense to vaccumm your floor before dusting.
Have the right tools
Knowing when to use what is vital. Tough toilet stains? Pumice Stone. Stubborn surface stains? Degreaser. Mold?bleach, and having a good vacuum is never a bad idea. Knowing when to go for what tool is vital.
Use both hands
Cleaning with just one hand is a major rookie mistake. You should always be utilizing both hands. As you are spraying a surface down, immediately start wiping the surface with the other hand. As you are wiping counters lightly rub the other hand across the counter top to ensure no sticky messes were left behind (especially on granite)
Never stop moving
You should flow, go from one task to another. Lots of time can be wasted by taking breaks in between task. For example in the bathroom go from high dusting, to mirrors, to cleaning surfaces without breaks. You will be amazed how quickly you can finish a room when you work non stop.
